Day 32 | Pattern Cutting

March 11, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I’m currently taking a dressmaking course and I’m really enjoying using all of the tools and equipment. Especially cutting out the pattern pieces.

There’s nothing more satisfying than smoothing out a pattern piece and pinning it to a fresh piece of fabric.

Tonight I cut out a collar in Paisley print; I can’t wait to piece everything together!

Day 31 | Web

March 9, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

One of the main concepts of this photo a day project is to try to find great images from within my everyday surroundings.

One month in and this has become somewhat challenging. But today, I captured some interesting shots of a spider’s web in the garden around midday.

Usually the optimum time to capture a spider’s web is first thing in the morning before the dew has evaporated, so I was quite surprised by the clarity of these shots.

I’m cheating today by sharing three photos, but only because I simply couldn’t chose a favourite.

Day 30 | Cider Barrels

March 6, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I recently went scavenging around a local reclamation yard.

Sifting through the bricolage of junk makes for a more pleasant afternoon than battling with shoppers on the high street.

I found these rugged cider barrels holding their drink very admirably, facing the cold harsh light of day like upstanding members of society.

Day 29 | Tree Cat

March 5, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I’m finally the owner of a nifty fifty. Look at it; bask in its beauty:

Naturally, I took it out for a spin as soon as I’d unleashed it from its packaging. And naturally my poor unassuming fur baby was my subject.

Mick always show-boats in front of the camera. He led me over to the firs and clawed his way up the nearest tree. This is why he’s called “tree cat”:

Day 28 | The Swarm

March 4, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

“We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill” – John Livingstone Seagull, by Richard Bach

This quote elevates the renowned beach terrorist to somewhat majestic, even imperial planes.

I can’t imagine this is the general perception of the seagull. Personally I find their shrieks akin to nails down a chalkboard.

However, when I managed to capture a colony of gulls circling and soaring through the sky, I couldn’t help but appreciate their agility; they even looked attractive.

Nice work gulls – here’s day 28’s photo:
