Pretty Personalised Products for Cats

March 9, 2015 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

This is my cat, Mick

Optimized-This-is-Mick (3)

Sometimes, he can be a very messy eater. Like this:

Optimized-Mick-food-spillage

No matter which dish he uses, his food always ends up all over the floor. Sometimes meters away from his bowl. I don’t know why. Perhaps he gets too excited by kibbles. But either way, I was getting fed up with stray, hardened cat food on the floor.

Cat Food Placement Mat

So we decided to buy him one of these. A personalised, cat placement mat from personalise.co.uk.

Optimized-Mick's-cat-food-matt

It’s exactly what we needed. Instead of having to scrap food off the tiled floor, we can easily wipe spillages off of the laminated placement. Or put it through the washing up at the end of the night – not whilst we wash our plates and cutlery mind!

It was also a very reasonable price for something that’s personalised. And even though Mick is a cat I like to think he knows when I’ve treated him to something.

And that’s not the only personalised gift he’s received recently…

Personalised cat name tag

Mick used to lose a collar every single month, and with that, his name tag too which was getting quite costly. That’s when we transferred over to a flea collar with a more secure fastening. Once he had been able to keep a collar for more than a month I decided to get a special name tag for him.

He’s chipped, but I think that even in this day and age it helps to have a cat collar with a name tag so people know he’s not a stray and that he’s a beloved family pet so know not to steal him!

I bought him this cute cartoon cat name tag from gettingpersonal.co.uk

The tag has his name printed on the front with a personalised message engraved on the back reading:

IF LOST

PLEASE CALL

MY MUMMY

XXXXX XXXXXX – I’m not stupid enough to publish my home phone number on my blog!

In the past 4 months since he’s had his new name tag, he has lost his collar only once. But thanks to the personalisation, a neighbor was able to return the collar and name tag too me.

The collar might undergo a great deal of stress and strain, but the tag hasn’t been chipped or scratched by the many bells he wears on his collar to alert the birds of his presence. It’s definitely a high quality item and I recommend getting something adorable like this to identify your cat.

He looks rather smart, don’t you think?

New Photography: Death Project

February 23, 2015 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I’ve recently completed a photography project that I’ve been meaning to do for ages!

It’s called the oh-so-inspiring “Death Project” which is (loosely) influenced by my absolute love of the creepy sister’s Death Project in Ginger Snaps.

OK, it’s actually nothing like their death project, I just like the name and love the deadpan montages.

Anyway, here are the photographs, which are also available to purchase as prints from my Crated store

It’s no bed of roses

Side skull with flowers optimised

Teeth and death

Skull-with-flowers optimised

 Weeping sunflower

Skull-with-sunflower optimised

Single dying Sunflower

Upside-down-skull-with-sunflower optimised

It’s been so great to finally get these finished, and it was surprisingly therapeutic arranging a sheep’s skull with dried flowers. If you’d like to support my work, head over to my Crated Store now!

Have you been working on any photography projects recently? Let me know in the comments.

Valentine’s Day | Strange Gifts for Strange Girls

February 10, 2015 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

strange gifts for strange girls

I admit it. I’m strange. And over the years I’ve embraced my strangeness and love for the weird and wonderful. This has also spilled over into the gifts that my nearest and dearest give me, like the sheep’s skull my boyfriend got me one year. It’s still a treasured possession.

So, if you’re a strange one like me and you don’t know how to tell your partner that chocolates and flowers don’t really get your heart racing, or if you’re in love with someone who is a little quirky and you have no idea what to get them, then this last minute Valentine’s Day gift guide for strange girls should help you out.

1. Tooth Necklace Etsy

Strange girls still like jewelry, but they’re not overly fussed about how many carats something has. This real human tooth necklace from Etsy seller BoneJewelery would make a perfect token of affection. It’s mounted onto an oval polymer backing to ensure the tooth doesn’t rot away.

2. Globe Ring by Dandelion Jewelry

Diamond rings do not impress strange girls. We still like our statement jewelry, but it has to be weird. This globe ring with real dandelion seeds is both glamorous and allegorical  – something to fuel your loved one’s imagination.

3. Beetle Scarf

Some people wear horse prints, others like insect prints. I know which camp I fall into. If your girlfriend doesn’t like anything cute and fluffy then this Beetle scarf from Not on the High Street will make a unique Valentine’s gift. Beetles actually use their mandibles to battle with other males for female affection so there would be some romantic intent with this gift.

4. Lolita Lempicka Midnight Couture Black Eau De Minuit Eau De Toilette

Perfume is always a staple gift for Valentine’s Day, but this Lolita Lempicka perfume smells gorgeous and the bottle is beautifully gothic in design. It’s perfect for those who collect unique perfume bottles.

5. T.U.K Anarchic Viva Mondo Velvet Punk Boot

The one and only gift on my list that features the colour red. As red is the official colour of luurve it wouldn’t be a Valentine’s Day gift guide without it!

So red might not be your girlfriend’s favourite colour, but these velvet boots from T.U.K are perfect for alternative girls – and being red they’ll symbolise some semblance of romance.  Shoes are still a girl’s best friend after all!

Valentine’s Day Blogger Event At Lush Luton

February 8, 2015 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

Main blog image

So last Wednesday I attended my first ever blogger event at Lush in Luton. The theme was obviously Valentine’s Day given the time of year and I had the best time!

As an advocate of brands who don’t test on animals and a long time lover of Lush products I was completely in my element. The event was after hours so I was able to browse at ease and we were given one-on-one demonstrations of some amazing Valentine’s Day products. Here are some of the highlights.

Love Locket Bath Bomb Demo

The first demo was for the Love Locket Bath Bomb, aptly named for the romantic season.

Love LocketThey showed us how to “pop” the bomb open and to simply place it into a warm bath so that the sweet aroma is released. It smells amazing and the bomb tints the water an alluring pinky colour with teeny tiny confetti hearts swirling through the haze:

Love Locket Water

I’d be more than happy with this for a special Valentine’s Day soak.

Flower Bath Bomb Demo

Flower Bath Bomb

If anything can make bath time more exciting it’s the famous flower bath bomb. It smells gorgeous and creates a magical foaming rainbow when you plop it in the bath:

But the night wasn’t all about smooshie Valentine’s Day; I had a god ol’ look at some other products I’ll definitely be buying next pay day. Here are a few that got my attention.

Solid toothpaste

Solid Tooth Paste

Sold as packets of thirty tabs, you simply put one of these in your mouth, swig some water and brush your teeth as normal. It’s ideal for festivals and they’re available in a variety of flavours as well as whitening options.

Lonely Heart Bubble Bar

OK, so this isn’t technically on my wish list; I already bought it and used it the other night, whoopsie.

lonely heart bubble bar

I loooove the lonely heart bubble bar so much. It smells yummy (thanks to the lemongrass and ylang ylang) and it made my skin feel so soft. It’s almost a shame that it’s only around for Valentine’s Day. Oh well, at least it will be back next year.

Gorilla Perfume

Gorilla Perfume Lush

How hard is it to find quality perfume that isn’t tested on animals? The answer is too hard. But once again thanks to Lush you can buy a dreamy scent that matches your ethics. I particularly like Sikkim Girls because it has a bit of a kick to it due to the jasmine, but still has a sweet undertone with the help of the frangipani. I’m definitely making this my new scent.

If you think I’ve missed anything off of my Lush wishlist do let me know in the comments.

Thanks,

Zoe-Lee

My 5 Favourite Instagram Accounts This December

December 18, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I’ve seen other bloggers write Instagram roundups and I love the idea. I might make this a regular thing if people like it.

If some of you hadn’t noticed, Instagram is my favourite social networking site. I like it because it puts emphasis on visuals and I enjoy working around the restrictions of the media to create beautiful shots.

There are so many amazing instagramers out there who are genuinely talented and don’t just rely on a filter to make their photos look good. Whilst many of the people I follow capture everyday scenes, I also follow people who are artists, designers, crafters or just everyday IG’ers. Here are my top five instgrammers from this December.

@ingridpetriedesign

ingridpetriedesign

Ingrid Petrie is behind the handle @ingridpetriedesign. She’s a graphic designer based in Scotland who sells prints of cute and whimsical designs.

@stuckwithpins

stuck with pins instagram

I first came across Corinne Alexandra via her blog, also called Stuck with Pins. She’s a designer. illustrator, photographer and a collector of the macabre. I particularly love how she frames her bone collections for interesting shots.

@carlynotcarly

carlynotcarly

Carly Morris is one of those instagrammers who uses her account to share her professional photography. Her feed is packed with delicate macro shots of water droplets clinging to petals and tiny insects.

@skull_society

skull-society

The @skull_society bio reads “Welcome to a world of skulls” and their posts definitely deliver on this. From, graffiti to paintings and from illustrations to sculpture, if the subject matter contains a skull, the Skull Appreciation Society will post it.

@nicholasgoodden

nicholas goodden

Nicholas Goodden is probably one of the most talented urban photographers I’ve seen recently. Oh – and he’s been named in the Top 100 Most Socially Influential Photographers. Rather than capturing a building or structure in it’s entirety, Goodden exploits unusual perspectives to make us see our everyday surroundings differently.

If you’re following a particularly talented instagrammer, why not share in the comments below.
